As a Postdoctoral Researcher, Dr. Latorre works closely with the Foregut Surgery Program Director to develop innovative projects in basic, clinical, and translational research. His primary focus areas include foregut surgery and esophageal motility. Dr. Latorre is responsible for trial design, protocol writing, research and grant proposals, advanced data analysis, as well as regulatory compliance for preclinical (e.g, animal models) and clinical research. Additionally, Dr. Latorre mentors medical students and surgery residents from Creighton University and the University of Arizona in research methodology and foregut physiology.Key Achievements-Published +30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in Q1-Q2 journals-Co-authored one book and contributed to three book chapters-Presented over 65 abstracts of original research at prestigious international and national scientific conferences (SAGES, ISDE, DDW, AFS, ISHLT, TOS)-Mentored one-on-one +20 undergrad, medical students, residents, and fellows in developing research proposals-Mentored and supervised 3 SAGES medical student research awards (2023, 2024, and 2025)-Secured funding through three private societies’ research grants (i.e, 2023 SAGES Research grant award winner)-Led and collaborated in developing NIH R01 and SBIR grant proposals-Facilitated national and international research collaborations with institutions such as Medical College of Wisconsin (USA), Arizona State University (USA), Creighton University (USA), University of Padova (Italy), IRCCS Policlinico San Donato (Italy), Paracelsus Medical University (Germany), Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), and Universidad del Rosario (Colombia)-Conducted and analyzed +2,800 esophageal functional tests, including high-resolution manometry, pH monitoring, and intraoperative EndoFLIPs.

ABOUT ANDRÉS R LATORRE RODRÍGUEZ
Dr. Latorre is a Medical Doctor (M.D.) and full-time researcher with a Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Research. With experience in R&D, he has contributed to Phase II and RCTs for companies such as CureVac AG, Janssen, Sanofi Pasteur, and Clover Biopharmaceuticals. Additionally, his expertise includes medical affairs in the biotech sector, particularly in stem cell therapies.As a postdoctoral researcher at the Norton Thoracic Institute, Dr. Latorre is dedicated to translational sciences and clinical research in foregut surgery, gastroesophageal reflux, and lung transplantation. His primary research focus is on the identification and development of noninvasive biomarkers for GERD-related lung damage.Active in the academic community, Dr. Latorre has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles and presented more than 65 abstracts at national and international conferences. He has also served as a consultant within the GI and surgery divisions for Medtronic and Castle Biosciences and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the Society of Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), and the American Foregut Society (AFS).Dr. Latorre is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and has experience in advanced biostatistics.
