ABOUT ANDRÉ PEREZ

Hi.I’m an Engineering Manager at SumUp, a European FinTech in payments, banking, and lending. With 8 years of experience, I’m building SumUp’s lending data team, applying machine learning ops techniques, and leveraging my strong software engineering background to deliver scalable solutions in a fast-paced company with a strong engineering and product culture. My career spans various industries, including fintech, telecom, and credit. At Stone, I led the development of a machine learning platform for the lending tribe, while at Experian, I drove the migration of credit score models from mainframe to Hadoop infrastructure. These projects involved not only data but also complex software engineering challenges. At Amdocs, I had the opportunity to contribute to data projects and innovation bootcamps at their headquarters in Israel. In addition to my industry work, I have deep ties to academia. As a former master’s candidate at the University of São Paulo (USP), I researched distributed systems and data architectures used by leading companies. I’ve also been an instructor and tutor, creating EBAC’s first data courses (+5k students) and teaching distributed computing in USP’s data science MBA program.I’m passionate about open-source and software development. I led several projects, including a highly successful Apache Spark project with over 170k downloads and 500+, which was featured on the official MongoDB blog. These initiatives reflect my bias for action and my commitment to building robust, efficient software systems. For a full list of my activities (articles, podcasts, etc.), check out my GitHub: https://github.com/andre-marcos-perez.Feel free to reach out:)
