WORK HISTORY
Literacy Engagement Strategist @Gwinnett County Public Schools
Suwanee, GA, US
In my role as a Literacy Engagement Strategist, I use the EL Curriculum to design rich, engaging learning experiences grounded in literacy and informed by the research of Bettina L. Love (Abolitionist Teaching), Gloria Ladson-Billings (Culturally Relevant Pedagogy), and Chris Emdin (Reality Pedagogy). These frameworks guide my commitment to creating a classroom environment that is both culturally responsive and socially transformative.Through a \"Literacy Laboratory\" setting, I empower students to explore critical topics such as social justice, environmental justice, historical events, and the lives of transformative leaders. I integrate students\' lived experiences into the learning process, fostering an inclusive and affirming space where their voices and identities are celebrated.Collaboration and creativity are central to my approach. I provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in peer discussions, offer feedback to one another, and demonstrate their unique perspectives through creative projects. By encouraging critical thinking and active engagement, I aim to cultivate students’ ability to navigate and challenge societal inequities while inspiring them to envision and work toward a more just world.
