ABOUT ANDREAS LANGNER

Expert in developing solutions for transparent deforestation and forest degradation monitoring systems from regional to pan-tropical/ global scale. I am used to communicate complex scientific concepts to different audiences from locals to policy makers, linking the world of science with the reality of policy and decision makers. My special interest is the monitoring of tropical rain forests, which are of great importance because of their extremely high biodiversity that is threatened by deforestation and forest degradation processes. In order to effectively protect these ecosystems, it is crucial to analyze the rates and spatial patterns of deforestation and forest degradation, to identify the underlying drivers of change as well as to obtain information about the remaining and lost biomass. During my research carrier I was involved in various international projects both as an experienced researcher as well as contributing to project management - enjoying a lot the work in interdisciplinary teams with colleagues of different nationalities. My working experience further covers capacity building activities with local authorities but also dealing with international cooperation and development agencies.
