As Executive Director of United Catcher Boats (UCB), I lead the trade association representing the catcher-vessel fleet harvesting Alaska pollock, Pacific cod, and Pacific whiting—the largest and most sustainable fisheries in the United States. My work bridges science, policy, and industry: advocating for effective federal fishery management, advancing innovative bycatch reduction tools, and ensuring our fleet continues to provide healthy, affordable seafood to communities across the country.I work closely with industry leaders, fishermen, scientists, policymakers, and coastal communities to navigate complex challenges—from climate-driven ecosystem shifts to evolving federal regulations—while promoting solutions that balance conservation, food security, and economic opportunity. At its core, my role is about building partnerships, telling the story of a modernized, science-driven fleet, and ensuring that U.S. catcher vessels remain leaders in sustainable fishing for generations to come.I also handle all the day-to-day leadership that keeps the organization running: finance, administration, governance, and have the privilege of leading a small but incredibly talented team. Together, we balance the nuts and bolts of operations with the big-picture mission of advancing sustainability and strengthening the communities that depend on these fisheries.
