ABOUT ANDREA MONTGOMERY

I am an intercultural being and have dedicated my life to making theatre that brings people together across cultural difference. I always welcome new challenges and new partners in exploring international, intercultural, performing arts. Right now I am entering an R&D period with a constellation of lovely global artists, and putting early plans in place for a 2026 tour of The Trumpet & the King, Terra Nova\'s production about black trumpeter John Blanke, and his friendship with the English Tudor prince who became Henry the 8th. Professionally, I balance freelancing with strategic and creative work as founder and Artistic Director of Terra Nova Productions, an intercultural theatre company that I run from a base in Northern Ireland. I am a strategic creative whose outputs include more than 70 productions directed around the world; 13 produced scripts; cutting-edge thinking about intercultural work and equity; large-scale project development, often in post-conflict environments; and an ongoing love for Shakespeare. I have worked across the UK and the Island of Ireland, in Asia, Iran, Greenland, North America and various places in Europe and the Middle East, and have lived on three continents. I speak two languages fluently and have years of experience working through translators. I am above all an artist: a director and script writer. From this I also apply my creativity to problem solving and strategic development in multiple environments. I have run repertory theatres, rescued buildings in trouble, devised and co-created original work, created intercultural Shakespeare productions with hundreds of people, built organisations, developed programming and created a pop up venue. I have done years of creative and strategic work with venerable museums and venues, from the UK National Museum of Science and Industry to the Albert Hall. I have developed budgets in the millions and run projects on a shoe string; fund-raised, marketed, filmed, photographed and cartooned. I have trained business people, charities, politicians, and the Irish rugby team.
