ABOUT ANDREA BORTOLAN

Technology has fascinated me since childhood — not just as a profession, but as a way of thinking. Over the years, this passion has evolved into a career driven by curiosity, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to delivering value through innovation. I began my career at IBM in the iSeries support team and progressed within the Power Systems Presales organization. Until June 2025, I led the Power Team & Power Systems Cloud Solutions at Sme.UP S.p.A, where I managed complex infrastructures and helped customers design and implement high-performing, reliable, and scalable solutions — primarily on IBM i, but not exclusively. As of July 2025, I’ve taken on the role of Governance Manager for smeup services, with the mission of evolving our offering as a Managed Service Provider (MSP). This transition is the natural outcome of the work done in my previous role — where I introduced significant automation in the management of IBM Power systems within our datacenter, and developed reporting tools to monitor service quality and availability. These initiatives not only improved operational efficiency and transparency, but also demonstrated the value of a structured and data-driven approach to service management — laying the foundation for this new strategic responsibility. My technical foundation is rooted in IBM Power Systems and the IBM i operating system (AS/400), which I know in depth — from hardware to high availability solutions. But what defines me is not just deep specialization. I’m constantly looking for ways to go beyond, whether that means exploring new technologies, embracing Linux and open systems, contributing to innovative software solutions like Duplo TSA for IBM i HA, or simply learning something new that expands my perspective. I believe in structured thinking, but not rigid boundaries. I enjoy working with teams, solving complex problems, and applying creativity where others see only constraints. I am at my best when I\'m learning, building, or helping others do the same. Core Strengths -Curiosity-Driven Technologist – Always eager to explore new technologies beyond my domain of expertise-Deep Technical Expertise on IBM i – From OS-level knowledge to HA/DR, replication, and system tuning-Fast Learner & Adapter – Capable of mastering new concepts quickly and applying them in real-world scenarios-Creative Problem Solver – I approach challenges with logic, creativity, and a hands-on mindset-Team-Focused Leader – I believe in knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
