ABOUT ANDREA POLO GALANTE
As a seasoned expert in Food Security and Nutrition, I have been a driving force for global transformation for nearly two decades. My extensive global engagement spans a wide range of critical issues, encompassing everything from eradicating hunger and ensuring food security to combatting malnutrition. Academic and Research Leadership: In my roles as a nutrition professor for the undergraduate nutrition course and as the head of the Master\'s program in Child Nutrition and Development at Center University Sao Camilo, Brazil, I have effectively led a team of 25 professors. During this time, I cultivated a collaborative culture and facilitated effective problem-solving. Among my notable achievements was the restructuring of qualification profiles for Master\'s degree reports, yielding exceptional results. Additionally, I served as a principal investigator in national surveys, making substantial contributions to the comprehensive analysis of school feeding programs. At the heart of my contributions lies my pivotal role in developing Vivanda, a well-established online platform that seamlessly transforms food data into comprehensive nutritional information. This versatile platform is actively employed for various purposes, including conducting research on food consumption, calculating nutrient values for recipes and food preparation, and assessing their nutritional adequacy. Global Impact: During my tenure of over 4 years at the World Food Programme (WFP), I led efforts to integrate smallholder farmers into school feeding programs through South-South Triangular cooperation. Following this impactful role, my nearly 9-year journey at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) centered on pioneering a visionary nutrition-sensitive agriculture initiative. This groundbreaking project played a crucial role in strengthening connections between smallholder producers and local markets, seamlessly infusing nourishing foods into school feeding programs across diverse nations.
