ABOUT ANDREA CARSTENSEN
Andrea Carstensen is a young American peacebuilder, invisible disability advocate, and human rights activist dedicated to promoting inclusive youth involvement in policymaking and development processes. She has served as a youth delegate and session co-lead in United Nations high-level forums including Summit of the Future (UNGA79), HLPF 2024, and ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024. She was also invited to speak at the high-level 25th anniversary event on a Culture of Peace by the UN Office of the President of the General Assembly following her work in the Youth Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda, Summit of the Future, and SDG16+ with Major Group for Children and Youth. She sits on the Executive Board of Sustainable Development Africa INC (SDA). At the community level, she also sits on University College London (UCL)’s PsychUP for Wellbeing Student Advisory Board to informs best practices on student mental health in the context of ethnic minority and international student experiences. Andrea holds a First Class Bachelor’s degree in International Social and Political Studies from University College London, specializing in International Relations, French, and Mandarin with a focus on democratic backsliding, political violence, and conflict prevention. She will graduate from the London School of Economics-University of Toronto Double Master of Public Administration (LSE) and Master of Global Affairs (Munk School) in 2026. As a early career researcher, she has cultivated her policy analysis skills through her work experiences with NGOs, charities, student collectives, and national coalitionsment agencies, including USAID where she was involved in promoting mental health treatment for torture survivors. UNDP Solevaka platform has also published two of her articles on advancing LGBTQI+ rights in Pacific Islands Countries. Her work spans grassroots civil society, national organizations, and international platforms, emphasizing marginalized community engagement, equitable and accountable governance, and safeguarding human rights around the world.
