WORK HISTORY
Head of Robotics @Clearspace
City Of London, GB
As Head of Robotics at a space company, I lead the design, simulation, and testing of advanced robotic systems for complex space missions, including projects focused on satellite capture, deorbiting, and other groundbreaking applications. My team recently secured a contract with the UK Space Agency for the development of a novel robotics mechanism, further driving innovation in our field (CLASP). I oversee the growth of the UK robotics team, managing recruitment, mentoring, and upskilling efforts across multiple locations to strengthen our technical expertise and mission readiness. Our robot -CRAB - and our efforts have garnered attention, successfully appearing in several newspapers, highlighting our work as one of the few of its kind in the world.

ABOUT ANDREA ANTONELLO
I am heading the Robotics department at ClearSpace UK, a company that aims to make space sustainable by removing debris from orbit. I have more than 10+ years experience in leading the design and development of innovative solutions for challenging problems, spanning from industrial to space robotics. In my current role, I lead the design, simulation, and testing of a novel space robotic arm for the CLEAR mission, a groundbreaking project that will capture and deorbit two defunct satellites. I also contribute to the expansion and management of the UK robotics team, hiring, mentoring and uspkilling talented engineers across two geographies.Previously, I spent 5 years at Automata Technologies, where I developed my managing and leadership skills. There, I spearheaded the company\'s entry into the lab automation market, leading the design and prototyping of the LINQ platform, an automated lab bench that resulted in two international patents. During my time at Automata, I led a multidisciplinary team of ~15 engineers.I have a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, and an MBA from the University of Iowa, USA. I published several research papers and consider myself a well rounded engineering leader, with more than 10+ years experience in control and robotics (Matlab + Simulink), software development + DevOps (C, C++, Python) and hardware development, from design to manufacturing. I am a strong believer of the Agile Methodology, having successfully applied it in both Software and Hardware scenario (and even Space!).
