Co-founded the Pediatric Medical Device Institute, along with VT ME faculty member, Dr. Al Wicks. Mentored dozens of VT engineering and life sciences undergraduates, served on graduate committees of 8 ME students, and research advisor of 4 VTCSoM medical students. Participated in development of appropriate affordable medical devices intended for use in low- and middle-income countries. Since 2004 has served as VP & chief medical officer, chair of board, president & CEO, of CitiHope International, an international humanitarian and medical relief organization. Traveled extensively conducting needs assessments, monitoring and evaluation of programs, meeting with governmental and business leadership in US and throughout Africa, central Asia, and Dominican Republic. Since 1990, CitiHope has procured, shipped and distributed over $1 billion in medicine, medical supplies, nutritional and developmental resources worldwide.
