ABOUT ANDRE LUIS DE SOUZA COELHO
Andre Luis de Souza Coelho is a scholar-practitioner committed to advancing sustainability and resilience through research, teaching, and community engagement. He holds an M.Sc. in Sustainable Development Practice from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Sustainability Excellence Associate (SEA) professional credential by GBCI, and the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) by ECI. He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Urban Leadership and Entrepreneurship at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), with a concentration on Urban Sustainability and Resilience Leadership. At UDC, Andre also serves as Project Specialist for Green Infrastructure and Urban Resilience, where he leads and supports several research, extension, and education initiatives.His investigation focuses on green infrastructure for stormwater management and evaluating sustainable strategies, technologies integrating community engagement, experimental applied projects, and models to assess sustainable strategy, technologies, and public policies, with particular attention to urban sustainability. His Ph.D. research, funded by NIFA/USDA, explores a structural economics approach, including Input-Output models, to develop a framework to compare the economic, social, and environmental impacts of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and conventional specialty crop farming in the United States. His work addresses pressing questions about food security, equity, and the sustainability of decentralized food systems.Previously, Andre served as a Resilience Research Fellow with Groundswell, Inc, contributing to the U.S. Department of Energy-funded research project that co-developed a community-centered energy resilience framework. He also teaches sustainability and environmental science at UDC, where he integrates research, practice, and student engagement. Andre\'s professional background spans more than ten years in environmental, health, and safety management in the industrial and logistics sectors. He is an active member of international professional societies, including the International Society for Ecological Economics, the Brazilian and United States Societies for Ecological Economics, and the International Society of Sustainability Professionals. Beyond his academic and professional work, Andre also shares Brazilian culture as a percussion educator with EducArte, Inc. at Levine Music School in the Washington Metropolitan Area and as a performing musician for more than fifteen years.
