ABOUT ANDONIS SARMIAS
Below is a short summary to provide more insight into personal characteristics and the dynamic career choices, I\'ve been fortunate enough to spend sixteen years homing, learning and growing in. From a young age both my parents owned their own respective restaurants and had my brother and I hands on working them. We learnt work ethic, discipline, responsibility and long hours of physical labour early on in life. I went from graduating Highschool into a full-time waitering position with Ocean Baskets (Seafood Franchise) flag ship store (2007 December - 2008 December). A year later I was on construction sites plumbing and inventory mapping for U-smart Piping Concepts on Orlando and FNB Soccer stadium for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa (January 2009 – December 2009). In 2010 I moved to Jeffreys Bay, South Africa to manage and run my father’s business, an iconic Greek Seafood restaurant that is still open today. My business partner and I used this time to develop our own concept and business plan. The Bay Pasta Company, an Italian fusion restaurant, successfully opened its doors in 2012 and we ran it successfully until we sold in 2014. I have worked in multiple industries since then, always looking to gain new skillsets to bring forward to my next career. From teaching English in Hanoi, Vietnam (2015 Nov -2018 May) to being a deckhand and 2nd engineer on Super yachts in the Mediterranean and US including My wife and I have spent the past eight years traveling, living and working in Asia, Europe and the US. Teaching, Yachting, Cleaning, Maintaining, training and now find ourselves land based and living long term in Berlin Germany. October 2020 until - December 2021 I worked as a Maintenance technician for Infarm, an international powerhouse in the green revolution. Bringing crops back to the cities we live in. Current day you will find me in the development stages of a new up and coming start up; Potager Farm where I plan to utilize a lifetime of dynamic industry and career experiences to help create something special for the future of fresh produce supply. We have a goal, one that is hard and far from simple, a goal driven by passion, belief and experience. It’s a long road ahead to make this goal a reality, but the road less travelled always comes with great lessons, humility and adventure.
