About Anders Johnson

I’m a seasoned energy executive with 38 years of experience delivering innovative, reliable, and affordable solutions in the transmission and underground storage of natural gas. Currently serving as Director of Gas Storage Development at Kinder Morgan’s Natural Gas Pipeline Group, I lead efforts to identify and enhance storage assets across the U.S. My career spans engineering, gas control, operations, planning, and pipeline system design. I’ve held leadership roles including Vice President of Gas Storage Engineering, Director of Facility Planning at PG & E, and Director of Pipeline System Design for Kinder Morgan’s U.S. assets. I’ve led due diligence efforts for over $2 billion in acquisitions and divestments, and provided expert testimony to FERC, as well as technical guidance to major banks and private equity firms. I hold a patent for an inline electric motor-driven compressor, and have published papers on pipeline simulation, expert systems, and gas/electric partnerships. My work has been recognized with Best Paper awards from PSIG and I’ve co-authored a machine learning-based storage analysis tool with Palantir using their Foundry platform. I’ve collaborated with AGA, DOE, EDF, FERC, GMRC, INGAA, PHMSA, and the Pipeline Research Council, and co-chaired updates to API RP 1170 and 1171 for underground gas storage. I’m passionate about working with multidisciplinary teams to advance the state-of-the-art in energy infrastructure and promote safety, reliability, and affordability.
