ASPIRE and Utah are leading the nation in electrified transportation innovation through cutting-edge R&D and real-world deployments, industry engagement and electrification workforce development, data modeling and strategic planning. I support that endeavor through a variety of public engagement and communications strategies to meet people where they are. Under the Utah Electrification Initiative (see UtahElectrification.com) all of these efforts are coordinated and planned for at a system level, to maximize benefits and reduce costs. This initiative encompasses a market-led and community-informed strategic envisioning effort guiding the 30-year vision for the state\'s electrification infrastructure and ecosystem development. This is already having a positive impact on the state\'s economic growth trajectory and ability to attract investments and businesses, create in-demand jobs, plan for and develop a future-ready workforce to fulfill this growing need for specialized electrification projects and know-how. Our most recent accomplishments speak for themselves: in September 2024, ASPIRE secured a 5-year funding renewal from the NSF, and in January 2025 attracted an additional $22M DOE award to build Utah’s (and the Western US’s) first electric truck charging hub.
