Developed a novel cooling system by introducing cooling channels into the stator back iron for a concentrated winding design, achieving a continuous to peak power ratio of 74 % at high speeds and 62% at rated speed. The developed design achieved a 26% higher specific power loss and 33% higher power density at rated speed in comparison to the same machine cooled using water jacket.Designed a unique oil-flow manifold for stator back iron cooling channels, resulting in a filed patent for the innovation.Conducted magnetic characterization of three electrical steel grades under laser-cut edge damage and varying compressive stress levels using a single-sheet tester for investigating the impact of manufacturing on the machine performance.Developed a methodology for estimating the stator iron loss build factor when the stator is subjected to shrink fit and laser cut without increasing the simulation time and being optimal for initial selection of electrical steel grade.Developed a stator iron loss build factor as a function of torque and speed which highlights the specific regions on a torque speed plane where it is impacted the most due to the lamination damage.Led the prototype build of the complete machine for testing and characterization, coordinating with self-bonding lamination stack and winding suppliers, overseeing full assembly, and developing the test plan for the novel oil-cooled machine.
