ABOUT ANAS BUZRIEDA

A synthetic and Medicinal Chemist at Concept Life Sciences with over 8 years academic and industrial experience supporting the process of drug discovery and helping to create new pharmacologically active molecules. I did an undergraduate degree in pharmacy at the University of Benghazi from 2008 to 2012 and then based on my academic achievements (Ranked first in the department), I was awarded a scholarship for postgraduate study at the University of Nottingham, where I obtained my master degree in Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Sciences with a first class honours. In 2021, I obtained a Ph.D. degree in Synthetic and Medicinal chemistry with professor Michael Stocks. The title of my thesis was (Discovery of Highly Selective PI3K δ inhibitors for the Treatment of Blood Cancers and Autoimmune Diseases). Overall, in this Ph.D. project, I synthesized more than 90 final compounds as potential anti-leukemia and anti-inflammatory drugs using a structure-guided drug design approach. Some of these compounds displayed superior PI3K δ activity and selectivity than the only FDA-approved selective PI3K δ inhibitor (Idelalisib).I am also a member of the team who has made it to the final 3 times in the National Retrosynthesis Competition (RSC/SCI), where we came 2nd and 3rd in two of them. I gave interesting suggestions which helped the team to propose efficient synthetic routes for given complex natural products. I presented our synthetic routes to more than 100 judges and audiences.
