About Ananya Rath

I became a lawyer because I believe law is one of the most underrated inventions of human civilisation. Not the jargon, not the paperwork but the idea of it. That we built invisible architecture to hold rights, responsibility, and relationships together. That still moves me, 8 years in.My background is in corporate and in-house legal work across financial services, investment management, and technology contracts. I\'ve spent years in the details — negotiating global commercial agreements and working across cross-border legal frameworks spanning the US, EU, EMEA, and beyond. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws from NALSAR University, one of India\'s foremost law schools. Some of the work I\'m most proud of:Leading a programme to draft and execute data protection addendums for 119 vendors across GDPR jurisdictions, coordinating with data privacy teams, performing Transfer Impact Assessments, and making sure cross-border data flows were legally defensible. And leading a class action claims team that recovered $58 million in capital, work that required precision, stakeholder management, and the kind of attention to detail that doesn\'t show up in a job title.Where I am now:I\'m pursuing a USPTO course in IP law, because I believe intellectual property will be the most contested legal frontier of the AI era. Who owns what a model generates? Can training data infringe copyright at scale? These aren\'t hypothetical questions anymore and the law is not ready for them.I use AI tools occasionally and thoughtfully. I\'m not an AI power user. I\'m a lawyer paying close attention, asking hard questions, and thinking carefully about what this technology means for the law, for organisations, and for people who sign contracts without reading them. What I write about here:AI regulation and what it means in practice. Data privacy GDPR, India\'s DPDP Act, what\'s changing. Intellectual property in the age of generative AI. The future of legal work for lawyers and students entering a profession that looks nothing like the one I entered. And occasionally the relationship between stillness and clear thinking, because I\'m also a Heartfulness Meditation Trainer, and I\'ve found that the best legal judgement comes from a quiet mind, not just a sharp one.All views here are strictly my own. I write to learn, to share, and to make law less intimidating for anyone willing to read.If any of this resonates, follow along.
