About Ananth Balaji

I am an Indian and U.S. qualified lawyer and am currently working as a Principal Associate at J. Sagar Associates in Mumbai, India. My interests include capital markets and securities law. Very recently, I graduated from the Columbia Law School, New York City, with an LL.M. degree. I am admitted to the Bar Council of India, and am certified for admission to the New York State Bar Association, USA. Prior to re-joining J. Sagar Associates, I worked as a Senior Associate at Duane Morris & Selvam LLP in Singapore, where I advised on a number of Indian fundraising transactions from a U.S. Securities Act perspective. I have advised and currently advise clients on a number of public offerings and private placements as well as infrastructure investment trusts. Marquee Transactions: I advised Indian and foreign merchant bankers in relation to the initial public offering (IPO) of an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) sponsored by India’s largest power transmission company. The above IPO was the first of its kind by an Indian public sector InvIT and the largest one (by value) by an Indian InvIT. I also advised the InvIT sponsored by the statutory authority responsible for managing and developing national highways in India, in relation to its initial offer of units by way of a private placement. This was the first-ever private placement of units by an Indian public sector infrastructure investment trust and the first by an Indian regulatory authority. I was also actively involving in advising merchant bankers in relation to the initial public offering of the entity authorized by the Indian Government to provide ticketing and catering services for the Indian Railways.I am an alumnus of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (NUJS), and graduated with a B.A, LL.B.(Hons.) degree in 2017.
