ABOUT ANAÏS L. ALVARADO
I am passionate about empowering community college students with disabilities by helping them break through systemic barriers and challenging stereotypes. I have had the privilege of seeing many students go beyond their initial limits, even transferring to four year institutions to continue their academic journeys.For the last six years, my research has focused on understanding the experiences of diverse groups once labeled as \"the minority.\" The term itself is problematic, which is why I have concentrated on finding ways to transform the educational experience by embracing the power of narrative. I believe in the value of each student’s story, especially when we look at communities like Chicanx individuals. Their identities are often framed through borders and contradictions, but I see this complexity as a strength - not a weakness. Through narrative driven approaches, I aim to celebrate and harness the power of these rich, interdisciplinary backgrounds.I thrive on breaking down systemic barriers, creating transformative educational environments, and bringing a thoughtful, analytical approach to my work. At the heart of it all is my commitment to student development, fostering inclusivity, and creating spaces where every student can find their voice.
