Perhaps, that’s the whole beauty of space. It makes you feel big and small at the same time. The need to explore space is not new. Since prehistoric times, people have looked up and wondered about the world above. They have taken chances, some successful, some not but the basic curiosity has always pulled man to keep taking those chances. One of those chances was the establishment of SEDS. As SEDS grew bigger and various countries started their own SEDS chapters, one of the first universities to do so in India was VIT University which eventually became the headquarter of SEDS-India. Most of the working of SEDS in India is undertaken by the governing body of VIT University. What began as a small chapter back in 2007, has emerged as one of the most recognised one in VIT. With classroom events every week, star gazing session once a semester and during GraVITas, the activities conducted in the Outreach department, SEDS- VIT has always made sure that it lives up to the standards set up by their seniors and do justice to the position of being flag bearers of space related activities in the campus. After being conferred the award for the Best Student Chapter in VIT for three years, SEDS has established itself as a leading chapter. Every year, a membership drive is conducted by SEDS for the first years which is usually graced by hundreds of excited first year students. Based on their performance in the preliminary written round, they are called for a personal interview where they are judged on various factors.
