ABOUT RITA ARAÚJO
2 main projects: 1) SPHERES (hypertrophy of lipid droplets; cardiometabolic disease): reconstituted lipid-protein systems (LDs, liposomes); novel protein functions in lipogenesis; short chain fatty acids in lipolysis. 2) CAZIKANO: lipid remodeling after Zika infection- other projects: ion channel activity in oxidized membranes; endothelium’s lipidome in diabetic patients; novel yeast scramblase; lipid remodeling in VAPA mutants- establishment of methodology: lipid extraction and quantification, HP-TLC-MS, lipid-protein biochemistry- samples: adipocyte spheroids, mammalian cell line, brain, liver and adipose tissue, plasma, yeast, zebrafish- always within a team, and collaborating with other groups. Before- early phase R&D in fungicide resistance. Assay development- small molecule analysis and monitoring by LC-MRM (Analyst®)- high-throughput screening- lipidomics (LC-MS/MS (Xcalibur™), GC-FID/MS (TotalChrom™))- fungal lab models (Saccharomyces and Candida) and filamentous fungi (Botrytis, Phakopsora, Zymoseptoria) Portuguese as mother-tongue. Working in an English and French speaking environment.
