Behnisch Architekten was founded in 1989 and works out of three offices. Established as a branch office of Günter Behnisch’s practice Behnisch & Partner, the Stuttgart office became independent in 1991 and has subsequently developed into an international practice with offices in Stuttgart, Boston and Munich. Their work is driven by the belief that the surroundings directly influence the quality of peoples lives, whether in the work place, at home or in the public spaces in between. This emphasis on the social dimension is fundamental to their design philosophy, which takes as its starting point the acknowledgement that architecture is generated by the needs of people, needs that may be spiritual as well as being material.
