About Amy Rookstool
Often, the greatest inheritance we have is the least recognized until something important is at stake.I founded The Inherited Map™ to help people, families, founders, institutions, and place-based communities recover forms of inheritance that are often most valuable and consequential: historical identity, continuity, context, and meaning.Too often, major transitions happen without enough continuity to carry them well. Wealth changes hands. Elders are lost. Leadership shifts. Properties and communities are redeveloped. Organizations drift from their founding identity. People inherit stories, assets, and responsibilities without the context needed to hold them with confidence, coherence, and purpose. That is where my work begins.Through The Inherited Map™, I help clients recover and interpret historical identity and legacy context obscured by time, silence, migration, fracture, or change. My work brings together historical research, archival reconstruction, place-based insights and intergenerational perspective to make inheritance more usable, coherent, and alive. This is not about nostalgia. It is about the long game. When handled responsibly, history can function as a stabilizing asset. It can bring succession clarity, deepen belonging, strengthen stewardship, differentiate institutions, and help families, founders, and communities build with greater coherence. In a culture that often rewards short-term visibility, I am interested in what endures. My methodology is evidence-led and built to withstand scrutiny. I have contributed more than half a million archival records and helped reconstruct thousands of family lines especially across North America, South America, and Europe. I approach lineage and legacy with reverence, accuracy, and discernment.Earlier in my career, I helped steward high-visibility historical and cultural narratives, including legacy collections associated with Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn, as well as Americana work for Heritage Auctions. Those experiences sharpened a discipline I still bring to every engagement: how to carry histories that require unusual care, accuracy, and consequence-awareness.Because each engagement is bespoke and research-intensive, I take on a small number of projects each year. I begin with an application process to ensure alignment, readiness, and care.At its best, my work helps people act before something essential is flattened, forgotten, or handed down without meaning—so they can live, lead, and build with greater continuity, credibility, and purpose.
