Amy Guth hosts a daily podcast for Crain’s Chicago Business, discusses business and technology news on WGN Radio, and hosts UnConventional with Amy Guth, a podcast which showcases conversations about the courage and wisdom to be different, a quality especially critical during this moment of rapid social and technological change impacting social systems on every level. Guth is currently President of Bitch Media, an independent, feminist media organization, is Immediate Past-President of the Association for Women Journalists Chicago, author of the 2006 novel “Three Fallen Women.\" She also directed/produced the documentary project “Din,” and co-produced \"La Mitad del Mundo,\" a Spanish-language documentary film about sex trafficking.(Sounds varied, but in reality, it’s all quite focused around sharing impactful stories on various platforms.) In 2013, Guth was named Chicago’s funniest Media Personality by Laugh Factory Chicago, and previously appeared on both Newcity\'s Lit50 and Film50 lists, on StorySouth’s notable stories list, and was named a Million Writers Award nominee. Her screenplay,\"Open Road,\" which she co-wrote with Emmy-winning director Rocco Cataldo, won best Screenplay at the Los Angeles TV, Script and Film Festival in 2021. Guth’s work can be read, seen, or heard at Los Angeles Review of Books, Chicago Tribune, WGN-TV, CLTV, WBEZ, WCIU-TV, The Believer and others, and in the academic text “Independent Female Filmmakers” (Routledge, 2018).Previously, Guth was a sr. facilitator at The Op-Ed Project‘s Public Voices Fellowship, Executive Director at the Midwest Independent Film Festival, and an adjunct faculty member at the Univ. of Chicago. She also served as general mgr/publisher of RedEye & Metromix at Tribune Publishing Company, and managed social media and search engine optimization at Chicago Tribune, where she co-wrote a social media column. During this time, she also served as a founding advisory panel member of Social Media Week Chicago.She also previously served as digital editor for Chicago Tribune’s books section, where she covered the then-rise of digital publishing, and independently founded and served as Executive Director of Pilcrow, a small press literary festival.Guth has spoken at colleges, universities, literary festivals and tech conferences about book promotion, writing, editing, social media and SEO, and has taught in the Chicago Tribune and other US newsrooms about digital media for journalists. She also co-hosted the long-running Chicago reading series, RUI: Reading Under The Influence.
