Experience
Voice Instructor
Jan 1990 — Present · Roanoke, VA, US
My goal is to help singers develop and set free their own unique voices, in the most organic and holistic way. I treat each singer as a whole being, understanding that singing well and freely requires the ability, not only to learn proper techniques, but also to remove psychological obstacles, release tension and approach singing with a deeper understanding of the mind/body/spirit connection. Because I believe that singing with intention is of the greatest importance in truly releasing one’s authentic voice, I include language/diction coaching, interpretation, and dramatization as part of the whole learning process. Students will receive exercises specifically tailored to their individual needs, and it is my hope that they will use these tools independently to take charge of their own progress. I strive always to share ideas and techniques which I have personally tested during 20+ years of professional singing and teaching. In addition, I continue to stay open to new ideas in the field so as to share whatever might be helpful in guiding students toward a fully released and effective approach to the art.
