ABOUT AMY M. CHARLAND

I design learning that people actually use and that shows up in real behavior, not just completion. Over the past 10+ years in the healthcare and wellness industry, I’ve built competency-based curricula, assessments, and performance-support tools (rubrics, scenarios, job aids, workflow guides, coaching-conversation roadmaps) that help individual learners and teams adopt new skills with less friction. My design approach starts with a simple question: Is this really a training problem? If people need knowledge or skills, I build practice activities and feedback that help them do it correctly and consistently. If the real problem is the way the work is set up—tools, steps, or time pressure—I create simple job aids, checklists, and workflow guides they can use right when they need them.I’m especially strong in behavior-change skill-building (motivational interviewing–informed communication, readiness/barriers, patient-centered language) and in making learning feel clean and usable: clear structure, thoughtful UX, and slide/job-aid design that learners compliment because it makes learning more engaging and the work easier. I also use emotional design to reduce learner friction and anxiety so training feels approachable, motivating, and easy to apply.Open to roles in instructional design, curriculum development, learning & development, assessment/evaluation, and clinical education—especially where competency and real-world transfer matter.
