About Amy Harder
I’m the national energy correspondent for Axios. I’ve been covering energy and climate for more than 15 years. I’m also currently the inaugural journalism fellow for the University of Chicago\'s new Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth. In this non-resident role, I host the Shocked podcast and moderate events on campus during the 20••••26 school year. Before (re)joining Axios in September 2025, I was the founding executive editor of Cipher News where I spent nearly four years leading a global team delivering solutions-focused journalism on climate and energy. My awards include the American Energy Society’s Energy Writer of the Year award in 2022, and the Darlene Schmidt Science News Award by the American Nuclear Society in 2019. Other prior stints have included Axios (shortly after its launch in 2017) and The Wall Street Journal. You can reach me at a•••@amyharder.com for speaking opportunities, story ideas and more, or my Axios email: a••••••••@axios.com.
Experience
National Energy Correspondent
Sep 2025 — Present · Seattle, WA, US
I cover the future of energy and everything this broad beat entails. One particular focus is on artificial intelligence-the energy demands it requires and the potential for it to accelerate innovation.
