About Amy Roter
Amy Roter is a Licensed Associate Counselor in the State of New Jersey. After earning her first Masters in Teaching at Teachers College, Amy returned to school for a second Masters in Community Counseling at Montclair State University. From there she interned at Stepping Forward, LLC, and Intensive Outpatient program for children and adolescents. Shortly thereafter, she moved from the classroom at Livingston High School to the In School Suspension room where she helped students with de-escalation techniques and emotional support, triaging with the other counselors in the building. In 2017, she chose to move on from the public school setting and joined LW Wellness, a family concierge service, where she worked as an organizational coach and life coach, assisting mainly college aged women with executive functioning delays and stress management. In addition, at that time she created two coaching programs: one for working moms, and another for women looking to find a relationship. In Spring 2019, she worked as a maternity placement counselor at Montclair Kimberly Academy’s primary school. Her experience with multiple populations. Finally, in the summer of 2019. Amy found her home in private practice, where she can work with all of the populations she had encountered over the years: children, adolescents. emerging adults, adults and couples. She focuses her treatment on anxiety, depression, behavior, executive functioning delays (ADHD), grief/loss, PTSD, personality disorders, eating disorders, and OCD. Her ability to simplify complex techniques and theories, helps her clients make tangible growth in their counseling journey. With warmth, authenticity, and personal connection, Amy facilitates growth, focusing on the importance of the growth mindset for optimal human learning and development. Amy\'s expansive and integrative approach pulls from various theoretical orientations like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), feminist theory, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). Amy believes that knowledge, perspective, and strategies afford all individuals limitless potential for growth. Amy\'s unrelenting desire for learning coupled with personal and professional experiences have shaped and continually contribute to her ever-evolving practice. Her accessibility (whether in-person or virtually) aids in maximizing her client\'s personal growth; extending therapeutic ideology beyond the confines of the office acknowledges successes and offers support and encouragement between scheduled sessions.
