About Amy Lauber Howard

I frequently get asked how I went from being a design and business major to working in medical device education and sales. My answer is, I developed a passion. You see, in college I suffered from a fairly debilitating back injury. Through nine years of seeking all sorts of treatments I learned so much about the human body, my one and only vehicle to get me through this life. I learned that my injury was completely preventable as were the injuries of so many of my teammates and fellow student athletes. So after working in design for a few years, feeling very unfulfilled, I decided to choose the path of teaching injury prevention. This led me to going back to school, working at a physical therapy clinic, then as a personal trainer, and next as a clinical educator. As a clinical educator I dove heavily into learning about the mobility impaired population and how they and especially their caregivers were getting injured regularly. I had no clue being a caregiver (of so many varieties) was as risky as being a construction worker or firefighter. I have spent the past several years getting to teach caregivers how to use proper body mechanics, along with safe patient handling techniques and equipment to stay safe while caring for their loved ones and patients. I truly believe this is why my injury happened 18 years ago. To serve others.
