About Amy Johnson-Spina

Based in New York, my practice focuses on private funds, both with respect to fund formation and fund investments. I serve as co-head of Torys\' Private Funds Group and sit on Torys\' Executive Committee. With more than 20 years of experience in the private equity, venture capital and hedge fund industries, I have had the privilege of being a trusted advisor to clients that are leading global institutional investors, advising them with respect to their investments across asset classes. I give ongoing strategic advice to clients on their investments in a variety of sectors (including buyout, venture capital, credit, natural resource/ESG, distressed debt, mezzanine, hybrid, mortgage debt, and real estate private investment funds, as well as hedge funds and funds of funds), including through investment management agreements, separate accounts and platform structures. Over the past five years, Torys\' Private Funds Group has assisted clients with over 840 fund investments, representing aggregate capital commitments in excess of $56 billion, and have acted in North America for a number of sponsors in connection with the formation of over 63 funds.Using my understanding of current market terms based on my years of working closely with investors, I also represent fund sponsors on a broad range of issues relating to the forming of their private investment funds, including with respect to the structuring, regulatory compliance and best practices. In my decades of experience one of the highlights of my practice has always been the relationship-building that naturally happens with clients as you see them through deals and advise them on strategy alongside the evolution of their business.When not working, you can find me and the whole family spoiling our horses at the stables.
