ABOUT AMY HODKIN

I don’t see systems from just one angle.I see them as an ADHD adult, a SEND parent-carer, and a dual-qualified Registered Learning Disability Nurse and Social Worker, with 15 years in health and social care, starting at 18 and now working at national level.That combination has shaped everything about how I practice, lead, and advocate.Because systems don’t fail in theory.They fail in lived experience.And too often, families/carers are left holding the impact of fragmentation, thresholds, language barriers, and professional silos that don’t speak to each other.My career has taken me across Social Care in Disabled Children’s Services, and Child Protection, and six years within Sheffield CAMHS, across inpatient and community pathways including Duty, LDMH, Autism Support, Core CAMHS, and DBT.I’ve worked alongside young people in crisis, families navigating complexity, and teams trying to hold systems under pressure.Alongside this, I’ve stepped into system-facing and national roles: • Vice Chair, Royal College of Nursing UK Learning Disability Nursing Forum • NHS England Clinical Fellow, Learning Disability Nursing (North East & Yorkshire) • Lead, International Learning Disability Nursing Community of Practice (UK & Republic of Ireland) • Member, Positive Choices UK Learning Disability Nursing Conference Working Group • Collaboration with South Yorkshire ICB and Sheffield Hallam UniversityI’m also the Founder of Younghearts Soul Club, a grassroots not-for-profit youth space focused on belonging, confidence, and connection.Across all of this sits a consistent thread:Neurodiversity-affirming, relationship-based, system-aware practice that doesn’t lose sight of people inside complexity.I’m passionate about bridging:clinical expertise + lived experience + system leadershipBecause real change doesn’t happen in one space alone.It happens when we stop separating them.I’m always open to connecting with others who are working to improve systems for neurodivergent children, young people, carers, families, and the workforce supporting them.
