About Amy Batten

As an undergraduate at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, I learned early on that I wanted to help companies raise money and meet their goals. Duke University School of Law brought me to the South, where I found a vibrant and growing business community eager to tap into the capital markets.Now, with more than 30 years of experience in counseling public and private companies on complex securities law compliance and capital markets transactions, I co-lead Smith Anderson’s Corporate and Transactional team. Along the way, I developed an interest in corporate governance, working closely with executives and boards of directors on board and committee structuring, corporate governance policies and procedures, risk management and mitigation strategies, and best practices. I have worked with many of the region’s largest and growing public companies. I have led public and private offerings, advise on general corporate matters and have substantial experience with mergers, acquisitions and other core corporate transactions. Beyond client work, I leverage my governance skills in key leadership roles at Smith Anderson, serving as Chair of the Management Committee, Co-Chair of the Corporate and Transactional team and Co-Chair of Lawyer Development. In these roles, I have been able to help shape the firm’s strategic direction from the management level while also developing programs and directly supporting career development of the firm’s junior lawyers.
