As Co-Founder of the Judith A. Bassett Canid Education and Conservation Center, I have helped establish a one-of-a-kind organization focused on the ethical care, conservation, and public education of rare and endangered canid species. I have been deeply involved in shaping the Center’s mission to foster a deeper understanding of wild canids through science-based, hands-on educational experiences and international partnerships.A key focus of my work has been spearheading the introduction, care, and study of the rare Russian domesticated foxes—descendants of the world-renowned Siberian fox domestication project. Through coordinated rescue efforts, international collaboration, and public outreach, I’ve led initiatives that not only provided these animals with sanctuary but also advanced behavioral research and public awareness of their scientific and cultural significance.In addition to overseeing daily operations, I have led strategic planning, developed educational and conservation programs, and guided research that supports both in-situ and ex-situ conservation efforts. Under my leadership, JABCECC has become a nationally recognized leader in ethical canid education, conservation advocacy, and research.
