About Amlaku B. E.

As a Lecturer of Amharic at UC, Berkeley, I teach one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa. I have been in this role for nearly 4 years, and I enjoy sharing my native language and culture with learners. I also teach English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Community College of Aurora to people from different parts of the world. This semester each of my two classes are packed with people from 14 different countries. I love being in such a classroom!Besides my teaching positions, I am the founder of KHABBA Language & Digital Services, where I offer my services as a multilingual interpreter, translator, editor, and writer. I have about two decades of experience in delivering high-quality translations, interpretation, and language review in English, and Amharic. I have also self-published seven books on Amazon.com, two on literacy for pre-school children, and one on Amharic learning for foreigners and the Ethiopian diaspora, and two others for a nonprofit organization called Open Hearts Big Dreams. The recent two, published in the beginning of 2025 are my memoir, My Name Means His God, and a collection of Amharic poems, ህልም ኣለኝ.I did an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and a BA degree in Foreign Languages and Literature (English & French), which reflect my passion and expertise in languages and linguistics. I am also a graduate of the African Leadership Group\'s Leadership Program, where I developed my skills and knowledge in community support, leadership, and grant writing.
