Scheduling in the refinery industry is about making the right decision at the right moment - to maximize profit and minimize losses. The flexibility of such decisions depends on crude slate variety and the Nelson complexity index, which represents the different ways that molecules can be processed. The Bazan group uses a wide variety of crudes and is graded 11 on this index. The routine of the ORL scheduling team starts with giving crude traders the flexibility to choose the right crude shipment. It finalized just when customers gets the product on the right moment, no offspec and minimized giveaway. In between these there is a workable daily/ weekly work plan out of an optimized theoretical monthly plan. It is all about integrating the constraints and flexibilities of production units and commercial teams with uncertainty of both. An experienced schedueler supports the ongoing process of calibrating the optimization model, making it a real reflector of the refinery complex. This is the main tool to become as profitable as the plant should be. Leading and mentoring my team means let them bring up few ways and choose the best one. The method of asking relevant questions helps a beginner scheduler to become experienced one in shorter period. With experienced team the daily challenges solved faster, leaving us enough breath to lead migration from historical tools to professional software, implementing Bazan uniqe infrastructure into the APS - most common scheduling platform. Using these advanced scheduling tools for crudes, the same \"technical\" efforts are bringing much more detailed information into our considerations. We expect to improve even more when we will complete products implementation to theplatform. It should support us minimizing giveaway in products blending, while using the right components. Meanwhile, we all become more professional, in order to develope and implement better work tools and softwares.
