ABOUT AMIT GILAD
Before I became a psychotherapist, I had a career as a professional diplomat. I served in different countries and acquired six languages. Having been exposed to diverse cultures in the course of my life, I am particularly attuned to the varieties of narratives that shape people’s identities and relationships with self and others. In my work with each client, I aim to bring my unique personal and professional perspectives into our therapeutic dialogue. This proves especially salient in treating those impacted by relocation and/or immigration. My primary training and treatment orientation are in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, though I recognize that different people have different needs and may benefit from adjunctive therapeutic modalities. Hence, I utilize an integrative approach to support each individual in their own way. My client population is young adults and adults (including their” inner children”)—individuals and couples. I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where men and women can mindfully explore their emotional lives and relationships. Together, we first look at a person’s strengths before considering how old patterns—that might no longer serve them—repeat in the present and foreclose future growth. Using active and empathic listening—and a dose of humor, if appropriate—I aim to help my clients gain insight, find resources, and cultivate a toolkit to better cope with the ebb and flow of their reality and to live a more meaningful, purposeful, pleasurable life.
