ABOUT AMIR FARZANEH

I’m a Senior Reservoir Engineer / Subsurface Fluids & Flow specialist with 20+ years spanning CCS, underground hydrogen storage, SCAL/PVT, and EOR, with a consistent focus on turning complex lab and pore-scale physics into decision-quality inputs for development planning and business case maturation. In my role as Senior Reservoir Engineer at OMV Exploration & Production, I lead fluid-flow programs supporting CO2 storage and subsurface H2 storage. My work sits at the intersection of experimental design, HSSE, QA/QC governance, and upscaling / modelling, ensuring results are robust enough to influence screening, feasibility, and investment decisions. At Heriot-Watt University’s Centre for Enhanced Oil Recovery & CO2 Solutions (and Petroc Technologies), I manage and co-lead major industry-funded programs covering low-salinity waterflooding, WAG, carbonated waterflooding, heavy-oil EOR, microfluidics, and related multiphase-flow research, frequently working directly with sponsors through regular reviews, workshops, and technical reporting under strict timelines. What I’m recognised for:• Adopting a holistic perspective on subsurface challenges—integrating risk, uncertainty, and decision impact into structured, testable workflows.• Designing and delivering HPHT coreflood, SCAL, and PVT programs under robust HSE and QA/QC frameworks.• Translating laboratory outcomes into scalable, decision-ready inputs for core-scale and reservoir simulation, interpretation, and stakeholder reporting.
