As the inaugural AI Program Manager at NCDOT, I lead the agency’s strategy and execution of artificial intelligence initiatives to support safer, smarter, and more efficient transportation systems across North Carolina. My role sits at the intersection of innovation, policy, and technology adoption, ensuring AI is deployed responsibly and in alignment with state IT standards and the Governor’s Executive Order on AI.Key Responsibilities- Program Leadership: Drive NCDOT’s enterprise AI strategy, serving as the central coordinator across divisions, units, and external partners- AI Solution Development: Oversee design and implementation of AI-powered solutions, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot pilots, invoice processing automation, and TIP/STIP data analytics pipelines- Governance & Policy: Develop frameworks, intake processes, and guidelines for safe, ethical, and effective AI use, aligning with state and federal regulations- Cross-Agency Collaboration: Partner with NC Department of Information Technology (NCDIT), state leadership, and research institutions to scale AI adoption and knowledge-sharing- Change Management & Training: Build awareness, train staff, and foster a culture of innovation to help teams adopt and leverage AI responsibly.Impact Highlights- Leading NCDOT’s first AI Accelerator program projects, including automation of financial processes and policy support- Secured expansion of Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses and piloted their integration across core business units- Spearheaded the development of NCDOT’s AI & Data Hub, enabling secure access to cleaned, standardized datasets for analytics and AI use cases- Positioned NCDOT as a leader in state-level AI governance and transportation-focused AI research.
