Analytical chemist with a passion for mass spectrometry, proteomics research, and public health• Striving to improve audience-specific scientific communication through art and striking scientific figures. My expertise includes chemical and photo-crosslinking MS, liquid chromatography (SEC, SCX, RP, HILIC), structural proteomics, cell culture, protein purification, scientific technical writing, and MS data analysis pipeline optimization. My two favorite places to be are at the bench, applying my wet lab skills, or at the computer, analyzing data and effectively communicating results to my team. I have a creative mind for method development and have the flexibility to achieve a wide range of goals for unique applications. I enjoy working on complex structural biology problems which require the input from and collaboration with teams of multidisciplinary scientists. My critical interpretation from listening to leaders in the industry (which I would love to hear your opinion on) is that the state of proteomics right now is where genomics was in the 80’s and 90’s. I think that we may be currently living in the golden age of large-scale genomics and molecular biology. My PhD research has focused on pioneering methodologies in crosslinking mass spectrometry applied to structural proteomics, and I see myself working at the edge of the expanding proteomics field as it rapidly evolves over the next 30-40 years. I see how genomics has affected healthcare and personalized medicine, and I am driven to do the same for proteomics. Beyond my analytical skills, I have a deep interest in improving scientific communication through art. When I started my undergraduate education, I was unsure about my career path and pursued both a B.S. in chemistry and B.A. in studio art. I chose the path to a Ph.D. in chemistry in the end, but I still use the skills from my undergraduate art education to bring my research to color. I try to include a cover art illustration with every journal article submission. I am particularly passionate about illustrating watercolor \"cell scenes,\" exhibiting the crowded molecular milieu of E. coli. I am also passionate about using strong graphic design principles in scientific figures to better communicate study results to a range of audiences through visual storytelling
