About America Ortiz
As a first-generation college student and Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholar, I am passionate about using research, advocacy, and mentorship to uplift underserved communities. I bring experience in academic support, community-based research, and student leadership focused on expanding equity and access. Through my roles as an embedded tutor, peer mentor, and SACUE council member, I’ve worked to expand access to educational resources, improve student faculty engagement, and advocate for policies that strengthen equity and inclusion, especially for transfer and low income students. Currently, I’m a Career Prep Fellow with Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), where I’m developing my skills in business strategy, communication, and professional leadership. My long term goal is to pursue a career that bridges social impact, education, and policy.
