ABOUT AMELIA K.

With a combined seven years of professional and educational experience in conservation, I recently leveraged my skills within the Ecology team at ERM as a Marine Consultant offering specialist advice in ornithology to support the global renewables industry whilst prioritising sustainability. Prior to joining ERM, I spent nearly three years within the Image Analysis team at APEM Ltd identifying the marine fauna that utilise proposed offshore windfarm sites in order to inform the design and feasibility of potential developments.Championing quality and diligence in all of my work, I have had the opportunity to provide valuable contributions on a range of development projects, both marine and terrestrial. This has involved working across stages, from the collection and handling of raw data to the production of final reports, and over the lifecycle of various projects from consenting and pre-construction to post-construction monitoring. I have contributed my ornithological understanding to baseline reports, impact assessments, and scoping chapters, and have worked for clients looking to develop offshore windfarms in the UK & I, wider Europe, North America, and Australia, as well as undertaking extensive analyses for Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies to inform site designations, monitor seabird colonies, and investigate the accuracy of seabird flight height calculations.Before commencing my professional career in environmental consultancy, I undertook an integrated master\'s degree in Biological Sciences (specialising in Biodiversity & Conservation) at the renowned University College London, from which I graduated in 2021 with a First Class (Hons). My research at UCL involved simulation analyses of alien species-area relationships, and investigations into the interactions between planetary and human health in order to develop an understanding of how to safeguard ecosystems in a time of impending biodiversity crisis.Outside of my science-related endeavours, I am an illustrator and writer producing content on topics such as nature, wellbeing, and identity for my Substack:\'The Bird in Hand\'.
