About Amelia Markes

I am currently a graduate student pursuing my MPA in Environmental Science and Policy at Columbia University\'s School of International and Public Affairs. I have a BS in Chemistry from Penn State, completing my degree a semester early. After completing my Master\'s, I am looking to go to law school; I am interested in being an attorney as an environmental specialist, working in environmental arbitration or energy regulation, ideally at an (inter)national level. My graduate curriculum includes the fundamental science of earth systems and conservation biology, including their human dimensions, integrated with applied microeconomics and applied regression analysis. The interdisciplinary foundation of the program allows for a complex understanding of the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. For my electives, I am taking a course at Columbia Law School on Energy Law and Regulation, along with a SIPA course on ESG and Corporate Governance. I plan to take another Columbia Law School course on Climate Change Law to continue tying together my previous and future educations. My undergraduate academic background spans environmental, organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, alongside quantum mechanics, calculus, and physics. I also have hands-on experience conducting laboratory research and data analysis.Feel free to connect with me to discuss opportunities or collaborations in environmental science, policy, or sustainability.
