About Amelia Digiano

I am a freelance journalist working out of Boulder, Colorado. I am especially interested in stories about the climate crisis and the complex relationship between geopolitics and climate adaptation. Currently, I am directing a film about the political uprising in Ladakh, India, that is unfolding as the Himalayan region faces extreme water shortages. I am also the Executive Director of a nonprofit startup, Flare Journal, a photography publication dedicated to documenting the climate crisis. I love collaborative projects and I am so grateful to be working with filmmakers on the other side of the world as well as my network of former classmates and co-workers. Thanks to these connections, I am bringing my creative ideas to fruition.Prior to graduating from Montana State University, I worked as a grant writer and production assistant to Erika Cohn, Emmy-award winning director and producer. I also interned at Polar Bears International, an arctic conservation nonprofit. These positions taught me the importance of visual media and storytelling as modes of social, political and environmental activism. In 2024, I spent six months photographing areas undergoing immediate ecological disasters to highlight climate apathy in the United States. Since completing the series, Portraits of a Planet in Crisis, I have had the privilege to display the images throughout the country. I continue to seek creative projects that inspire difficult, realistic conversations about the climate crisis. When I’m not working, I’m usually reveling in the natural world. I love big days in the mountains (especially on skis) and early morning surf sessions. Nature is a space for everyone and I am dedicated to protecting it for all living beings, human and otherwise.
