ABOUT AMELEEN WONG
Ameleen is an undergraduate Biology student with a double minor in Health, Disease, and Culture and Immigration Studies at George Mason University. As a first-generation Latina on the pre-medical track, she is passionate about patient advocacy, mentorship, and fostering inclusivity in healthcare. Her journey into medicine has been shaped by resilience and determination. After taking a gap year due to COVID-19, balancing two jobs while caring for her grandfather, she began her academic career at Northern Virginia Community College. She discovered a passion for medicine and research, finding a sense of belonging in STEM. She has since conducted research at The Jackson Laboratory and continues to advocate for underrepresented students pursuing careers in science and medicine.Fluent in both English and Spanish, she has firsthand experience navigating healthcare barriers, which drives her commitment to providing compassionate, culturally competent care. She believes that non-traditional paths are a source of strength and uses her experiences to empower others. As she works toward becoming a physician, she remains dedicated to mentorship, advocacy, and ensuring that future generations have the support and representation they need to succeed.
