ABOUT AMBER MCNAMARA

I specialize in building connections through storytelling, strategy, and community engagement. I’m a strategic communicator and community connector who believes in the power of stories to transform organizations and strengthen communities. As Community Relations Manager at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, I lead marketing, communications, and advocacy efforts that raise awareness, build partnerships, and position the library as a vital hub for connection and innovation. Since joining the library in 2009, I’ve helped guide it through one of its most defining chapters: rebuilding and rebranding after a historic flood. That work not only led to the John Cotton Dana Award for Public Relations (2012) but also set the stage for the opening of two new libraries in 2013. Since then, I’ve been part of a leadership team driving national recognition, including the National Medal for Museum and Library Services (2017), three ALA Best in Show Awards (2018), and the Jerry Kline Community Impact Award (2022)—a career highlight. My background spans nonprofits, cultural organizations, and agency work, with experience in branding, creative direction, media relations, and strategic planning. Whether I’m shaping a campaign, cultivating partnerships, or telling a community story, I thrive on connecting people to ideas and resources that make a difference.
