About Amber Kim
I am a consultant, speaker, and professor who helps organizations and schools create and sustain anti-oppressive environments. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Denver in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. My specialty is cultivating individual and organizational Equity Literacy which is the mindsets, knowledge, and skills needed to resist harm, fight inequity, and strengthen and nourish marginalized staff and students.Although my anti-oppression consulting began in schools—public, private, charter, and universities—my consulting experience has expanded to include non-profit organizations, government agencies, and health and counseling professionals. After teaching for ten years in Chicago, Atlanta and Denver, I became an advocate who questions reform efforts that rely heavily on testing, compliance, and assimilation. I fight for equity in the world and in the ring as an amateur Muay Thai kickboxer. I am a mother of three children, two cats, and a hamster who appreciates authenticity, sassiness, and imperfection.Specialties: Develop Equity Literacy in students, educators, and professionalsProvide Anti-racism training for teachers and organizations, particularly White educatorsEvaluate education and organization spaces for hidden oppression and biasEvaluate intercultural competence and provide 1-on-1 / small group coachingCultivate anti-oppression knowledge, skills, and attitudesImplement Culturally Responsive and Critical PedagogyI do keynotes, trainings, professional development, consulting, small group and individual coaching.
