ABOUT AMBER STOFFELS

I am the Mgr I Industry & Public Project at Union Pacific Railroad covering Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Northern California. I am responsible for a team who is the primary interface between Union Pacific and federal, state, and local government, and private entities. I have 13 years of experience in public projects, transportation planning, construction, and project management. In my previous role as Manager of Public Projects at BNSF Railway, I directly oversaw numerous agency projects across my territory (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico) such as grade separation and highway-rail grade crossing modifications. I found this role very exciting and enjoyed working with my local communities. Many of my past projects as a Project Engineer took me further from home. For some, this may be difficult but I really enjoyed it. I was able to work in other states such as Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and Nebraska, and see places I would never have seen otherwise. Who else has gone to Broken Bow, NE, or Greybull, WY? During those years, I gained valuable experience in construction while also learning about each state’s stormwater permitting requirements. I truly enjoy the variety of my work. The challenges my projects bring make each day exciting. While I appreciate all aspects of my job, I think I like the planning phase of a project the most. I enjoy identifying project risks and finding a solution to these items.I have a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Masters in Engineering Management from CU Boulder. I am also involved with the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) and the Chair of the Bicycle-Rail Multi-Committee Task Force (MCTF).I am always interested in hearing from former colleagues or peers, so feel free to contact me if you would like to connect.
