ABOUT AMBER MORLEY

As a Deputy Mayor and City Councillor representing Canada’s largest municipal ward of almost residents, I am the first Black female Deputy Mayor in the City of Toronto’s 190 year history with deep roots and great pride in my Bahamian-Canadian heritage.I ran for office to be of service to my community, our city and society at large. Day in and day out I am engaged on important city building work, both on behalf of my residents, and also on behalf of Torontonians more broadly as an active member of 7 different boards and committees. As a lifelong advocate and community organizer, and the youngest member of Toronto City Council, with a background in public relations, I am well positioned to breathe life into values of inclusion, equity and empowerment from my lived experience and decades of work advancing causes related to social justice, good governance and community building. In 2022 I accomplished the rare feat of unseating a long-time incumbent, the only candidate in the 2022 election to do so. Through the power of grassroots organizing, grounded in honesty, transparency and authenticity, Etobicoke-Lakeshore residents resonated with my message and showed up to the polls in support of our shared vision of a Community For All. Since taking office I have served under two Mayors and have proudly participated as a trusted member of their respective Executive Committees, a sought after position in the Mayor’s inner circle. As an elected official, I am dedicated to walking through the world with integrity, transparency and authenticity. I believe good governance can only be achieved when our institutions and their leaders share this approach. I am proud and privileged to infuse that energy into every place and space I engage.
