ABOUT AMARA JADE KIRBY
After eight years as a Public Defender, I transitioned into my current role as Deputy County Counsel with the Los Angeles County Counsel Office in the Board Liaison Division. My work focuses on various oversight entities and advising County Departments and the County Board of Supervisors concerning the Brown Act, conducting oversight, public records requests, and various legal, political, and financial questions. After my Undergraduate studies, I worked with non-profits in Washington, DC for four years. I then earned my Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law, where I participated in the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law & Policy (PILP). I am dedicated to pursuing a public interest law career. Most of my experience has been in criminal defense, legal research, writing, community education, non-profit management, and providing direct client services. I have practiced criminal law, immigration law, family law, and eviction defense. After clerking with the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara County Public Defenders, and serving as a full-time judicial extern to Judge Harry Pregerson in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, I started my career as a Deputy Public Defender with Ventura County, and soon after joined the Office of the Los Angeles County Public Defender.
